What does a group of 20-something friends from uni do when they have a reunion?
A) Reside in the pub all day
B) Chill out/pig out before a big night out
C) Go to Winchester to see historical monuments
Take a good guess! When my university housemates came to visit for a long weekend, I had nothing in particular planned other than spending some quality time with some of my favourite people. You only realise how much you love your uni friends once you’ve graduated and you’re scattered across the country hundreds of miles apart.
We all love a good sight-seeing day – we’ve been to Berlin and Prague together aka a history geek’s heaven – so I decided to take them to nearby Winchester to have a wander around. Although a relatively small place, it’s really pretty and I hadn’t been in a long time.
First we headed to see King Arthur’s Round Table (told you we’re exciting) which, strangely, is mounted high on a wall and looks nothing like a table. It’s set in the Great Hall, an old medieval building which is so so beautiful. I even said “I want to get married somewhere like here”, chill out KP.
After this, we stumbled across what as I can only describe as one hell of a courtyard. We think it was surrounded by residential buildings, lucky lucky people. It was one of the last warm(ish) sunny days we had this year, making it even more picturesque. I think the photos speak for themselves…
After a Starbucks pitstop, we walked around Winchester cathedral and compared every section we wandered past to Game of Thrones. Overall, Winchester is the perfect scenic place, like a hidden treasure trove. Top tip – their Christmas market is a must visit!
